An introductory academic course for the whole GBS concentration focusing on general introduction of all the aspects of GBS operations with special emphasis on the Kraków/Poland context. The course is co-taught by UEK’s faculty members and representatives of the partner companies. Students will have a chance to learn systematic understanding of the GBS sector – its functions, tasks and unique features. The content of the course is based on cases from the partner companies and students are exposed to real-life examples and hands-on approach.

The course focuses on technological solutions used in the GBS sector. Students are exposed to various aspects of technological contexts in everyday activities in different companies. Special emphasis is put on the review of software typically used in companies, electronic management systems supporting their work. Part of the course is devoted to mastering MS Excel applications in business contexts. Most of the students’ work is based on the cases from the partner companies.

This course examines project management roles and environments, the project life cycle and various techniques of work planning and control and evaluation to achieve project objectives. Emphasis will be placed on practical application of project-management principles, processes, and techniques, including project control, cost management, project tracking, and project outsourcing – all in the context of the GBS sector. Students will also learn how to control project schedules, budgets, and scope, using methods that minimize or completely eliminate "scope creep." The course is co-taught by UEK’s faculty members and representatives of the partner companies and students use real-life cases in the learning process.

Students acquire a basic knowledge of the language of business and of the accounting environment. The course focuses on financial accounting, which provides financial information primarily for decision-makers outside the entity. This financial information is provided to external decision-makers primarily by means of general-purpose statements of operating results, financial position, and cash flow. The course concentrates on the application of accounting theory, standards, principles, and procedures to business transactions in the GBS sector. The fundamental rationale for the various aspects of financial accounting are stressed. The course is co-taught by UEK’s faculty members and representatives of the partner companies and students use real-life cases in the learning process.

A study of the integration and coordination of activities, such as purchasing, outsourcing, materials management, logistics, supplier selection, global sourcing and international distribution, to create an effective flow of materials and information from suppliers to customers. A special emphasis is put on the GBS sector contexts and the teaching process is based on real-life cases from the partner companies.

The main goal of this course is to introduce students to work environment in a global corporation and to teach them how to properly communicate in business environment (formaln, informal, online communication). As part of the course, students will learn about basic of business communication forms and rules of collaboration and group work. Through practice students will acquire skills in these fields. Classes are conducted in the form of group work.

The course focuses on various aspects of human resource management in contemporary business with a special emphasis on the GBS sector specifics. An important element of the course is preparation of the students for their own planning of their careers in GBS companies – this includes also planning for hiring, application process, development of students’ own professional growth pathways. The course is co-taught by UEK’s faculty members and representatives of the partner companies and students use real-life cases in the learning process.

Project module 1 - an introductory course aimed at providing students with an opportunity to learn about the functions, structures, activities and main tasks of the partner companies representing the GBS sector. The students are required to prepare a comprehensive report presenting their understanding of the GBS sector – this should include group impressions, interpretations and questions for further learning. Project module 2 - an intermediate-level practical course and students are given a chance to accomplish a practical project for a chosen partner company. In groups of 5-6, the students focus on a particular topic for the project providing particular solution to a real-life problem in a given company. The students are assisted in the project development process by a mentor from a partner company and an advisor from UEK. Project module 3 - an advanced-level practical course and students are given a chance to accomplish a practical project for a chosen partner company. In groups of 5-6, the students focus on a particular topic for the project providing particular solution to a real-life problem in a given company. The students are assisted in the project development process by a mentor from a partner company and an advisor from UEK. The project themes are supposed to be connected with the students bachelor’s final paper. *each module lasts 3 months

The course entitled will be focused primarily on getting to know basic information about the functioning of the GBS sector, both from the theoretical as well as practical side (thanks to case studies and study visits). We will signal the content that will be developed further ahead. You will:

• know the historical context, evolution and basic principles of GBS,
• know the potential and development trajectory of polish GBS,
• be familiar with governance structure of shared services and know possible selected models of it,
• understand the crucial role of human resources in GBS and know methods, which allow recruit and maintain high quality assets in this field,
• know the role of supply chains in GBS and position of selected Krakow firms in this branch,
• know opportunities connected with selected business techniques,
• be able to work in small groups oriented to solve specific case studies connected with basic dilemmas of Krakow GBS sector.

Project Management knowledge areas: integration,  scope, time,  cost, quality, human resources,  communications, risk, organizational change and change management. You’ll also be introduced to the profile and mission of a Project Manager, his/her role in an organization, as well as to the phases of becoming a Project Manager. It’s a discussion-based lecture/seminar with a writing-intensive component. The latter will be done in teams (Team Project – TP).  Consequently, it is based on a group work and covers also fieldwork in cooperating corporations. Passing Introduction to management is the prerequisite. You’ll be able to determine if there is a need for a project, select the best project to fulfill that need, develop the project according to the following.

We will focus on raising students’ awareness of the value of information and its business impact in the context of wide variety of users of financial information. We’ll explain the types of financial reporting covering different needs and requirements of both internal and external Stakeholders. You’ll obtain the knowledge about financial and accounting process that includes planning, booking, reporting, controlling and auditing. The curriculum will support developing workforce in Krakow towards global experts’ roles, facilitating shift from transactional activities to roles requiring judgement, decision making and close collaboration with the business. The graduates will be better equipped with the required competencies when starting their professional careers. You will be able to:

• understand the purpose of financial reporting and value of information in the business context,

• understand the types of financial reporting,
• understand the financial and accounting process.

The aim of the course is to prepare students for work in a corporate environment. Course includes classes on subjects such as communication, collaboration and self-development in which you’ll learn about theoretical aspects of business communication (such as internal & external communication, direct communication, online communication) and usage of different types of business communication tools. You’ll also acquire skills in the field of communication in a corporate environment and collaboration in team. Course will prepare you to proactively identify and utilize internal learning and development opportunities to embrace your career. Classes are conducted in the form of group work and require activities in cooperation with business. You’ll be able to:

• know business etiquette (formal corporate language and dress code rules and their application),
• prepare and carry out business presentations,
• prepare and lead business meeting,
• use basic elements of design thinking,
• work effectively in group,
• written formal and informal business correspondence,
• use online collaboration tools in business environment,
• perform basic business negotiations,
• work in a intercultural and remote business environment,
• know and use group and individual development tools and methods in corporate environment.

The aims of the course:

• learn theoretical aspects of the process of evidence-based decision-making,
• understand the decision-making process based on a huge amount of data,
• learn about applications that facilitate decision making in the corporate world.

During the classes there will be an emphasis on both soft and hard skills in the decision-making process. You will be able to:

• make a rational decision based on data,
• prepare and present results,
• work effectively in group.

Main goal of this course is to prepare you for technology aspect of your future jobs in corporate environment. This includes presentation of current technological setup of corporations so that you’ll be able to hit the ground running when starting the first job. The changes in technology are also of paramount importance for future workers when designing the career plan. Current predictions suggest majority of tasks will be automated within next several years due to developments in automation and artificial intelligence which will reshape the way the corporations function. We also discuss implied changes in the job market and how to prepare skill set that is adapted to them. You will:

• understand implication of technology for changes in society and economy,
• be able to adapt to change in workplace environment.
