Following prof. dr hab. Jerzy Hausner’s initiative, at the beginning of the 1990s the Independent Institute of Economy and Public Administration was established, later transformed into the Department of Economy and Public Administration (Polish abbreviation: GAP).From its very beginning the mission of GAP was to educate professional staff for public administration, public sector enterprises and non-governmental organizations. Initially Economy and Public Administration was one of specializations at Economics. In time, based on the individual program of education, the 1st and 2nd degree studies were created in Economy and Public Administration.

The scientific development of the GAP staff and long-term, informal cooperation with Departments now composing the Faculty were the reasons for establishing the Faculty of Public Economy and Administration.

The establishment process was initiated with the Regulation of the Rector from July 2015, and the scientific and didactic activities were commenced at the beginning of 2016/2017 academic year, namely on 1st October 2016.

The GAP Faculty was created as a result of the division of the Faculty of Economics and International Relations and Faculty of Finance (currently Faculty of Finance and Law) of Cracow University of Economics and since 1st October it has functioned in the structure of 6 Departments:

    • Department of Philosophy,
    • Department of Economy and Public Administration (currently Department of Public Administration and
    • Department of Public Economy),
    • Department of Regional Economy,
    • Department of Economic and Social History,
    • Department of Public Law,
    • Department of Sociology.
